about this artwork:
this original is moody and atmospheric, work that is typical of that produced by thompson. he is known for portraits in austere settings, verging on the bleak, and almost always features men. another common trait in many of his paintings is to have the very top of the head outside of our view, beyond the extremes of the canvas, as can be seen in ‘terminus II’. presumably set in a train station our eyes are almost drawn as much to the bag, a common companion on a journey, as the boys face.
